QBie™ Spotlight: Star Navigation Systems Group Ltd. (OTCQB: SNAVF)

QBie™ Spotlight joins Viraf S. Kapadia, Chairman and CEO of Star Navigation Systems Group Ltd. (OTCQB: SNAVF), to discuss one of the OTCQB’s newest additions. SNAVF joined the OTCQB on January 2, 2018.

What does Star Navigation do?

Viraf S. Kapadia (Chairman and CEO – OTCQB: SNAVF): “Star Navigation Systems Group Ltd. has developed the STAR-A.D.S. ® System – an on-board flight data monitoring system, operating with a ground based monitoring and reporting function, which enhances an airlines’ ability to monitor the location and status of every aircraft in its fleet, in real time, as well as to schedule maintenance, reduce fuel usage and improve overall operating efficiency.

The System provides a “virtual window into the aircraft”. It securely transmits – in real time – flight data and system alerts. It instantly analyzes the data from multiple selected avionics, compares the data received with expected parameters and transmits any exceedances via satellite – in real time – to a ground station. In addition, location and general flight data (position, flight level, heading etc.) are sent at airline pre-determined intervals. In the case of a serious event, the system can automatically commence transmission, continuing for as long as possible.

The STAR-A.D.S.® system provides numerous reports such as ECM (Engine Condition Monitoring), Fuel Reports, FOQA, MOQA, OOOI time tracking, trend monitoring, and will track possible flight issues such as hard landings and over rotation, flap and landing gear deployment and retraction, and APU usage.

This enables precise, timely monitoring during all phases of flight, and provides airlines with cost savings, specifically in terms of fuel usage, timely maintenance, reduction of AOG (Aircraft On Ground or unplanned delays due to maintenance issues) and safety. In addition, reports are sent to the relevant department (Finance, Operations, Personnel etc.) within minutes of landing, as opposed to the current system in which a report can take days to be generated and reach the relevant desk.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) recently adopted new aircraft tracking provisions designed to gradually take effect by 2021. These provisions include a requirement that aircraft carry a device that can autonomously transmit its location every minute during emergency circumstances, while at the same time enhancing the ability to recover and make available aircraft recorded data in a timely manner in the case of an incident. The STAR-A.D.S. ® System is already implemented and fielded, providing operators with value added functions and basic features that meet today the objectives laid down by ICAO for 2021.

The Company’s STAR-M.M.I.™ Division designs, manufactures, repairs and sells high performance flat panel displays for defense and commercial aviation industries, serving major avionics integrators and system manufacturers worldwide. In addition, the Division manufactures the STAR-ISMS® G3 computer, in support of STAR-A.D.S.® System activities. The integration of the STAR-M.M.I.™ division has allowed Star to control its supply chain, effectively complete its program and engineering capabilities while adding to its portfolio of products.”

What is the next big goal SNAVF is trying to accomplish/what should we keep an eye out for?

Viraf S. Kapadia: “While the Company continues to refine its existing suite of products and develop new applications for its patented technology, the bulk of its current focus is on sales and marketing for the STAR-A.D.S.® System.

In addition, the Company expects that the application of its technology to the MEDEVAC sector, whereby vital patient information is transferred in-flight to receiving physician’s, will be a significant profit center.”

Why did you join the OTCQB/go public?

Viraf S. Kapadia: “It is expected that listing on the OTCQB will introduce our Company to a larger market and will provide shareholders with additional liquidity and increased trading capacity.”

How can members of the microcap community help you?

Viraf S. Kapadia: “Following the losses of Air France flight AF447 in 2009 and MH370 in 2014 Star Navigation has worked with several regulatory authorities, (including the French BEA and the ad-hoc working-groups from ITU and ICAO), on developing connectivity, advanced tracking and data safe retrieval. During these discussions, Star contributed to the identification of key technologies to be followed, demonstrated how its autonomous STAR-A. D.S. ® system allowed connectivity for customizable real-time worldwide tracking, and facilitated necessary data download to the ground, both in nominal and emergency situations.

Part of the Company’s mission is to enhance air safety through bringing awareness of this currently available technology to the commercial aviation sector.”
